Europe At Its Best
Spain may be known as the country of the sun, sangria and tapas, but it is also gaining fame for its medieval villages, endless views and beautiful National Parks. Whether you like never-ending hikes in the most remote mountain areas, or you prefer the history of the smallest villages, Spain has it all.
From valley to valley in the Pyrenees, to the most rugged peaks in all of Spain in Picos de Europa, Spain is a haven for nature-lovers, experienced trail runners, and adventurous hikers alike. And if you’re like me a bit obsessed with hiking and enthralled with finding the most isolated areas, it will please you to know that 3 long distance routes were ‘constructed’. The trails cross the Pyrenees, all the way from the West to the East, over a distance of just under 900 kilometres. There is the GR10 route on the French side, the GR11 route that the Spaniards have to their name, and finally the Haute Route which combines the best of both.
And although I’m more of a nature-person, I thoroughly enjoyed the charming little villages as well. It doesn’t matter which region you drive through in the North of Spain, the cute little villages follow each other like only the southern countries can do this well.
My Spain itinerary sews together the best parts of the country’s north, including the Pyrenees, Picos de Europa, remote villages, and many more.
